This afternoon I was graced with the opportunity to join a small gathering in Chicago with the members of the multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning band Jars of Clay to talk about Blood:Water mission, the non-profit organization they founded to address the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa. We were also treated to a screening of the new documentary Sons of Lwala, a film everyone should see. Blood:Water mission is certainly an amazing group of people that deserve support.

Dean Kamen’s Solution to the World’s Water Problems

Everyone has been trying to find out more about his claim that “you stick a hose into anything that looks wet … and it comes out … as perfect distilled clean water.” So far, it looks like it is all true.

Today Is World Water Day

This Saturday, March 22nd is World Water Day!

In 1992, the UN General Assembly designated March 22 as “World Water Day” to draw international attention to the critical lack of clean, safe drinking water worldwide. More than 1 billion people around the world lack clean, safe drinking water and more than 2.6 billion lack adequate sanitation services. The lack of clean water is the root cause of countless other justice issues. This is a solvable problem.

When as little as $1 can provide a year of water for an African , for instance, it’s clear that everyone has something to offer. If we can rally this nation to care about this issue, we will see a dramatic decline in the water crisis. It’s an amazing privilege to enter into the lives and struggles of friends an ocean away.

As Dan Haseltine says, “a huge body of water has kept us apart from Africa, but water is also the very thing that can connect us.
“
