Prison Entrepreneurship Program: Job Training to Restore Lives

Prison Entrepreneurship Program StudentsMore than 60% of all former convicts will be rearrested, according to a 1994 Department of Justice study. The Prison Entrepreneurship Program provides job training to help current inmates break the cycle.

My name is Minister Diona Chandler and I represent the Florida General Baptist Convention State Prison Ministry.  I am the Chairperson and need not tell you how vast the responsibility is to service our state.  I created this blog to share with the family members of those who are incarcerated and or have been formerly incarcerated.  The vision is create a state network to empower, encourage and inspire the families and the victims.  I will check my blog everyday.  The hand has been extended, don’t leave me hanging.  Diona

Life Sentence for Perpetrator in Philippines Trafficking Case

MANILA, PHILIPINES ? On June 30, 2008, a perpetrator convicted of trafficking for sexual exploitation was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to pay damages to her victims, who were represented by IJM Manila?s legal team. The sentence marks the Philippines? 11th conviction for human trafficking since the country?s anti-trafficking legislation came into effect in 2003. ?This conviction is a clear statement that the trafficking of minors is simply unacceptable in the Philippines,? explains Carmela Andal-Castro, Director of IJM Manila.

Cyclists ride to raise water awareness

shelbyMiddle Tennessee advocates for clean water had a chance to join a national awareness-raising bike ride Saturday, if only for a couple of hours.

The longer trip began with 18 people on June 10 in Los Angeles to bring attention to the need for cleaner water in sub-Saharan Africa. As the Ride:Well Tour team made its stop in Nashville, riders participated in a city ride, giving locals a chance to participate and help raise funds.

With the combination of the Ride:Well Tour cyclists and about 100 local cyclists, the local goal of $10,000 was met and exceeded.  (story continued)
